I have a question for you. What are you willing to do to become successful? Anything, right? We all say that we’ll do just about anything within the confines of the law (and sometimes a teensy weensy bit outside) to succeed and yet some of us are successful and some of us are not. How is that possible?
It’s simple, really. Some of us are lying. There are those that would truly move heaven and earth for a taste of success. Then there are others that would do anything…except sales because it isn’t glamorous enough…and teaching because they don’t like babysitting…and traveling because it’s lonely being away from everyone you are close with…etc.
Although you say you would do anything, a lot of you have certain rules (i.e. excuses) as to why you can’t, won’t or shouldn’t. That’s why you are likely not as successful as you want to be. As a musician, I met some great players on wedding band gigs that later hired me for jingle work and ultimately a Broadway show! Had I turned down some of these opportunities because they weren’t exciting enough, I would not have had the opportunity of being in the studio or playing on Broadway.
So, here is my challenge to you. Take the next 30 days and put yourself on a diet. An “automatic yes” diet. Assuming there is no major earth shattering conflict, you are to say “yes” to every offer you get for the next 30 days. Like it or not. Ignore that little voice in your head that tells you not to take action because of one reason or another. Say yes and show up giving everything you have.
At the end of 30 days, look at all of the people you met that you wouldn’t have otherwise. See if your phone starts ringing more in the coming days, weeks and months. If it does, which it will if you did this right, make it a regular part of your diet. Just because you can say no, doesn’t mean you should!
